A Hat trick for DARC at the Sports Awards

DARC score a hat trick at the local Awards Celebration

Established in 1996 County Durham Sports was the first County Partnership in the country.  Being one of 49 County Sport Partnerships nationally funded by Sport England, the Department of Health and other local partners they were the first to submit an Active Sports bid with an aim to help County Durham the most active county in England.

On Wednesday 29th September Durham and Chester-le-Street held their awards ceremony to celebrate and recognise the achievement of those involved in sport and physical activity across the county.  This year nominations were received via the five main Community Sport Network areas – Derwentside, Durham and Chester-le-street, Easington, Sedgefield and Teesdale and Wear Valley.

Representing Durham and Chester-le-Street Durham Amateur Rowing Club received three of the awards.  Barry Hudson won in the Contribution to Sport category, Martin Tyler who coaches the Women squad at Darc won Coach of the Year.  Last but by no means least Darc won club of the year.

All the winners in each category will compete for the county title at the County Durham Sports Partnership Awards dinner to be  held at the Ramside Hall Hotel, in Durham.  The evening will be hosted by freelance TV presenter Kim Inglis with one of Britain’s greatest ever 400m athlete Derek Redmond as guest speaker.
