Veteran Rowers from DARC Climb 96 Places Overall

DARC Vets Start 103rd finishing 7th overall at the Vesta Veterans’ Head of the River Race 2010

The Vesta Veterans’ Head, now in its 28th year took place on Sunday 28th March 2010 on the river Thames over the Champioship course.  Nine members to include David Heppell (Bow), John Williamson, John Watkinson, John Appleby, Dave Walker, Martin Judson, Kim Metcalfe, Paul Stanley (str) and cox Emma Watchman from Durham Amateur Rowing Club travelled to London to compete in this International event.

At 11.00am BST the race started and was ran the ‘wrong’ way from Hammersmith to Chiswick due to the tide times.  DARC’s Veteran 8+ started 103rd, finishing in an astonishing 7th place overall, not only beating all of the other Vet E crews but also the Vet C crews and all but one of the Vet B crews.

The crew would like to thank the rest of the squad – the guys who could not be there on the day and those who sat in, did the work from September and kept the show on the river.
