One week after winning a silver medal at the National Championships Maddy McCarthy goes one better and wins GOLD in the WJ18 8+ at the Home Countries International Regatta.
The Regatta, held at the National Watersports Centre at Nottingham, is part of the London 2012 Open Weekend supported by BP, a series of events across the country enabling access to excellence in the arts, culture and sport and celebrating three years to go until the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The home countries (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) compete for:
- Men : News of the World Cup
- Women : The County Renfrew Rosebowl
- Junior Men : The Duncan Trophy
- Junior Women : The Irish Travel Agency Cup
Juniors win two silver medals and two more crews progress to finals.
Whilst the boathouse was suffering the effects of flooding several juniors were competing at the National Rowing Championships at Nottingham.
Silver medals were won by :-
- J4- Darren Smith, Ben Reilly O’Donnell, Stuart Lyons and James Dickinson
- WJ 2- Maddy McCarthy and St Peter’s composite.
The J15 4x+ and J4+ also reached the finals of their events.
John Preston to compete in the World U23 Championships in the Czech Republic. John Preston, Helen’s brother, who is a member of DARC and Reading University RC has been chosen to compete for GB at the World U23 Champsionships in Racice, Czech Republic, from July 23-26.
John will be rowing with Ben Rowe (who has also rowed at DARC) in the lightweight men’s 2x.
John and Helen both started rowing at DARC under the guidance of Peter Burdess.
