Roger rows to Victory in Dublin!

Roger’s impressive performance in Dublin secured him a Gold medal in the Men’s Heavyweight 60-69 year category.  Roger finished with a time of 7:08.04, some 6 seconds faster than his time last year!

The Irish Indoor Rowing Championships were held on Sunday 2nd December 2007 at University College in Dublin.  Roger Stainforth from Durham Amateur Rowing Club is a regular competitor at numerous British and World Indoor Rowing Championships.  Racing takes place over 2000 metres using the Concept 2 Indoor Rowing machine.  Many gyms and sports centres will have at least one of these machines, but to achieve times good enough for this international standard of competition is no mean feat.

Roger’s impressive performance in Dublin secured him a Gold medal in the Men’s Heavyweight 60-69 year category.  Roger finished with a time of 7:08.04, some 6 seconds faster than his time last year!   Roger was cheered on by his wife Hazel, who is an international gold medallist on the water.  In fact, during the weekend of the Irish championships at Durham Amateur Rowing Club’s annual dinner, Hazel was awarded Oarswomen of the Year in recognition of her many successes, particularly at the FISA Master’s World Championships in Zagreb earlier this year.
