40 years of commentary for Keith

At this year’s Durham Regatta on June 11th and 12th Keith Yates celebrates 40 years as the event commentator and 60 years since he joined Durham ARC as a cox.

Originally from Langley Moor Keith first took part in Durham Regatta as a schoolboy in 1951 and has been a fantastic supporter of the event ever since. He left the area and moved to Nottingham in 1962 but continued to return each year for the Regatta, doing his first commentary in 1976 and becoming an annual fixture ever since.

Recently returned from holiday in Rhodes Keith is really looking forward to his 63rd consecutive Durham Regatta and once more taking up his position in the commentary box.

Durham Regatta is run by a committee representing all the rowing clubs in Durham and also representing the local community.

Our Club plays its part by providing volunteers to work some of the jobs at the regatta – particularly start marshalling, assisting on the start platform, helping the commentator and crewing the safety boats. The Club also runs catering, bar, barbecue etc. at the Clubhouse throughout the regatta. Members and friends are urged to sign up for a role on the noticeboard in the foyer.

The draw/timetable for the Regatta will be published no later than Wednesday 8th June
