Boat Warden Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, agree and organise the implementation of an equipment maintenance programme in consultation with the Captain, Vice-Captains and Junior Coordinator
  • Overall responsibility for maintaining boats, blades, in a safe working order
  • Train and advise members on care and handling of rowing equipment
  • Reports to the committee on the status of the fleet in terms of repair
  • Maintain a boat repair book in the club house
  • Liaise with General Manager on repair schedule

Key Activities

  • Prepare, agree and organise the implementation of an equipment maintenance programme in consultation with the Captain, Vice-Captains, Junior Coordinator and Facilities Manager
  • Consult Captain and Treasurer on budgetary constraints and requirements
  • Set quarterly/six monthly budget for repairs and equipment
  • Report back to the Treasurer on a monthly basis the actual spend on rowing equipment maintenance
  • Maintain and monitor boat damage log as held in boat house and on google docs
  • Notify the captain of any delay in delivering any planned work, which may prevent required equipment being available for crews who are racing
  • Provide ongoing advice and appropriate support to club members and other Clubs using DARC wishing to upgrade their boat maintenance skills and knowledge
  • Ensure any accidents witnessed or heard about are correctly reported
  • Ensure the club rules and bye-laws are abided by
  • Ensure welfare issues are reported to the Welfare Officer
