Autumn head racing underway at Tyne Single Scullers Head

Autumn head racing got underway on September 19th as 15 entries from Durham ARC braved blustery conditions for the 2026 Tyne Single Scullers Head, hosted by Newcastle University Boat Club, a 3km time trial between Blaydon and Newburn for doubles and pairs as well as single scullers.

With around half of the 237 entries being from Tyne based clubs Tyne ARC emerged as the most successful on the day with wins in 13 events.

The DARC scullers, some experiencing their first race in a single, did well and all but one of those who started achieved a top 3 place in their event. There was a first win in a single for Debra Harland in Women’s MasC 1x and a win in Women’s MasE 1x for Deirdre Bruce.
