Aidan to represent GB v France

Aidan Lawlor is one of 54 J16 athletes selected to represent Great Britain in the J16 GB v France Match at Gravelines, France on July 11th. Aidan has been selected to race in the Men’s Single Sculls, having won a gold medal in the event at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta in April.

The team selection was announced by British Rowing following trials at Nottingham on June 28th. The fourteen crews selected will gain their first experience of international competition.

The match is a head-to-head contest over 1500m with this year being the 44th edition in the annual series. The tradition is for each crew to be formed from a single club or school.

The Northern region is well represented in the team which also includes Cambois Rowing Club’s Sonny Hughes and Harry Shaw in the Men’s Double Sculls, along with coach Wayne Thornton of Cambois.

The GB v France Match represents the first step on the British Rowing Olympic Performance Pathway, potentially paving the way for future Olympic champions within the team.

We wish Aidan and the team the very best of luck.
