Multi-lane racing at Tees Regatta

After 2-lane racing at our home regatta last weekend there was a different experience on offer at Tees Regatta on Saturday as 21 entries representing Durham ARC took on the water at the 850 metre 4-lane buoyed course at the River Tees Watersports Centre.

Good organization saw 130 races squeezed into a 10-hour window, with many events being seeded into bands to accommodate larger numbers of entries and ensure that each race was a straight final.

The first win of the day went to the Open 4+ in band 4 by means of a disqualification, a great achievement for the crew taking their second victory in two weekends in their first season of regatta racing.

There was a second place for the J18 girls in their first event of the day in the WJ18 2x band 1 which was followed up by a third place for Seren Williams in the WJ18 1x band 1 and a second place for Izzy Maddison in the WJ18 1x band 2, both in division 2, before a third place for the WJ18 4x- band 1 in division 3.

The Women’s Masters had 3 entries in division 1, Jenny Conroy taking second place to St Peter’s School in the Women’s 1x band 2, while Aisling Dutton was second to Tyne ARC in a WMasCD 1x handicap, and Deirdre Bruce in WMasE 1x finished third to Lakeland and Talkin Tarn in a WMasEFG 1x race.

In division 2 the Women’s Masters C coxless quad followed up last week’s success in their first regatta by taking second place to Tyne United by a length.

Also in division 2 the second win of the day, and their first regatta success, went to the Women’s 2x band 2 who won easily against St Hild & St Bede College, while the Women’s 2x band 1 finished second to Yarm School.

The J15 girls coxed quad had two entries – the WJ15 4x+ in band 1 finishing 3rd behind Yarm School and St Peter’s School, and the band 2 quad having an easy victory over Tees RC. In division 3 the J15 girls 2x band 1 took second place to St Peter’s School.

After taking second place by a quarter of a length to Tyne United in division 1 in the J15 2x band 3 the J15 boys went one better in division 3 by achieving the third win of the day by overcoming St Peter’s School and Tyne United.in the J15 coxed quad band 2.

Having started their campaign in division 1 with third place against two Yarm School crews in the J14 4x+ the J14 boys continued with another third place in the J14 2x band 1 in division 2. Success was to follow in division 3 with the final victory of the day, and his second in as many weekends, going to Daniel McConway who achieved a 4-length win in the J14 1x band 2.

The MasH 4x- finished ahead of the Tees MasH 4x and took second place to the Tees MasJ 4x in the MasHJ 4x- event.
