We are very sorry to learn that Don White passed away recently at the age of 83. Don had a long time involvement with the Club lasting several decades. He was Club Chairman from 1994 until 2006 during much of the planning period of the club’s building project which saw the redevelopment of the clubhouse we have today, prior to its opening in 2007.
He also coached juniors at the club and at Durham Johnston School at the time when the Amateur Rowing Association launched its Project Oarsome scheme in 1999 which sought to link schools and clubs by taking ergos into schools to introduce rowing there. When the ARA introduced Child Protection Procedures in Rowing Don became the Club’s Child Welfare Officer.
A funeral service will be held in St Paul’s Church, Hunwick at 10am on Friday, December 12th, followed by interment in Hunwick Cemetery.
