DARC Women win at York

Four crews from DARC entered the Yorkshire Head on March 1st. The head which is a major source of funds for rowing in the Yorkshire region is organised by the Yorkshire Rowing Council and takes place on the River Ouse in York. After suffering weather cancellations in previous years it was decided to run the 2025 event over a shorter 3000 metre course rather than the traditional 5000 metres.

Fine conditions on race day contributed to the enjoyment of competitors and officials and led to some fast times.

The Senior Men set the ball rolling with a time of 11.07.8 giving them 3rd place overall in division 1 although they were witthout opposition in the Coxless Four.

Making their first competitive appearance as an eight the Senior Women overcame York University to secure victory in band 2 of the Women’s Eight. The crew of Anna Wilson, Lucy Beresford, Rebecca Burns, Anna Golightly, Audrey Cobbett, Rachel Wilson, Rachel Thibeau, Gabby Maxfield-Kay and cox Scarlett Nicholson registered a time of 12.08.0, which was faster than 5 of the band 1 eights.

Another win went to the J18 girls who won the WJ18 Coxed Four in division 2 in 13.45.4, and Nick Baird was 3rd in band 1 of the Open Single Sculls in 12.53.1.
