On the morning of Sunday 16th April we welcomed home our two successful Boat Race rowers and ex juniors Sam Taylor and Matthew Edge.
Sam Taylor took the win in the lightweight race on March 20th by 11 lengths before Matt Edge took a thrilling victory in the Men’s Cambridge blue boat less than a week later.
This morning saw a new double set of Concept2 blades gifted to the club by the Edge Family. These have been kindly donated in memory of Irena Lentowicz – Matthews mother who sadly died in 2021.
Irena was a great supporter at DARC, enthusiastically shouting for Matthew and his crew from the river banks. She was often found with sleeves rolled up helping in the kitchen at home Heads and Regattas too – a great friend to the club. Aptly nicknamed the ‘spotty’ set, with red and white spotty tape adorning the looms, in a nod to her favourite pattern.
We hope these blades continue to bring success to an ever growing junior squad for many years to come.
