The final weekend of winter saw DARC crews in action in competitions near and far.
On Saturday, March 14th the Senior Women became the first crew from Durham ARC for 10 years to enter the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race, one of 327 eights from across the UK and overseas racing over the 6.8km Championship course on the Tideway between Chiswick and Putney.
Starting number 84 in what is the World’s biggest rowing race for women the crew came home in 21.44.3 to take 184th position overall and 17th fastest Provincial Club.

Over the same weekend the Women’s Masters B Eight were in Amsterdam taking part in the 54th Heineken Roeivierkamp which involves crews from across Europe and beyond contesting time trials over several distances. The DARC crew took on 2500 metres and 250 metres on Saturday and 5000 metres on Sunday, completing the course in 9.37.7, 55.6 seconds and 20.05.4 respectively to take 32nd, 31st and 35th places.

Meanwhile the Junior squads were at Cambois Rowing Club on Saturday for the Junior Inter Regional Trials, seeking selection for the team to represent the Northern Region at the annual British Rowing Junior Inter Regional Regatta (JIRR) which will take place at Nottingham on April 25th.
The time trial in 3 divisions involved 14 crews from Durham ARC among 108 entries from clubs across the Northern region.
