Funding to support people living with cancer.

Durham Amateur Rowing Club is one of more than 30 community projects across the North East and North Cumbria to receive a share of £200,000 from the Northern Cancer Alliance.

The funding is part of a community project to improve quality of life for people living with cancer through supportive group activities, which in Durham include rowing sessions.

The funding was distributed in partnership with Point North and supports a wider programme of neighbourhood projects, including exercise classes, complementary therapies, and a series of walks.

Of the total funding, around £193,000 has been allocated to “prehabilitation” projects designed to help cancer patients build physical and mental resilience before treatment.

The funding scheme supports a range of County Durham projects including the Team Solan Wellness Project, Butterwick Hospice’s cancer support programme, and the Warrior Support coffee mornings run by the Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust.

Elsewhere, the funding will enable Tyne Amateur Rowing Club and Tees Rowing Club to offer similar rowing sessions.
