Tees rowers visit Durham

DARC’s daytime rowers renewed acquaintances with friends from Tees Rowing Club on Thursday when the Tees Wrecks (recreational rowers) were invited to Durham for a row on the river followed by a buffet lunch, continuing the regular exchange visits that have been so much enjoyed by members of both clubs.since they started in October 2012.

The visits often include a variety of activities and fun challenges such as day tours on the Tees, guided walks or scratch regattas, as was the case on this occasion. Although numbers were lower than usual due to a range of factors there were 30 members in attendance which allowed us to boat two eights and two quads for a row down to the pool and back followed by a series of short races. Conditions weren’t ideal with Storm Benjamin on its way but the outing was greatly enjoyed by all who took part. Josie from Tees singled out Ray for special praise for giving a brief history lesson about the river and the background to boat clubs while coxing their eight. Teams A and C came out on top with 2 wins apiece, after which it was time for everyone to return to the clubhouse to catch up over lunch.

The social element is always a key factor.

We look forward to next time.
