Twenty-three members of the Junior squad had an outstanding weekend between Friday, July 18th and Monday, July 21st at the 4-day British Rowing Club Championships at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, bringing home two gold and one silver medals from 13 entries.
Conditions were good on Friday before becoming changeable and wet for the remainder of the weekend necessitating some changes to the published schedule.
Following his success in the GB v France Match the previous weekend sixteen-year-old Quinn Mosley (above) produced another stellar performance by winning gold on Friday in the J18 single sculls from a massive entry of 96 before a second success on Saturday, this time from a field of 67 entries, saw him take gold again in the J16 single sculls. On both occasions he was the fastest overall in the time trial to qualify for the knockout stage, going on to win his semi-final and the A final later the same day.
Friday
Durham ARC had entries in 3 events on Friday.
Quinn was 1st in the J18 1x time trial in 5.38.5, while Patrick Lakey was 56th in 6.12.9 which unfortunately wasn’t enough to take him through to the next stage with only 24 to qualify. Semi-finals and finals were contested side by side over 2000 metres in 6 lanes. Competing against older athletes Quinn won the first semi-final in 7.54.59 and then the A final in 7.44.93 to secure his first gold medal.

Last to start on Friday was Izzy Maddison who was in a large field of 65 starters in the WJ16 1x in which a time of 7.13.6 wasn’t quite enough to take her into the final stages.
Saturday
Quinn was DARC’s only entry on Saturday in the J16 1x, completing the morning time trial in 5.27.5 to take 1st place and go into the afternoon semi-final. Alec Thompson of Lambton RC was 2nd fastest in 5.28.2. Quinn went on to win the first semi-final in 7.40.11 to go into the A final which he also won, adding a new Championship record of 7.19.17 to the J15 1x record he set in 2024, securing his second gold medal of the weekend, with Alec taking the silver in 7.25.34.

After receiving his medal Quinn said: “I was very tired after yesterday, but it was a very good race. I’m really happy to come away with two medals. I’ve put a lot of work in, and it’s nice to see it pay off. I’m looking forward to some rest now!”
Quinn’s coach, Martin Tyler, said: “I couldn’t be more proud. It’s been a hard journey, but he’s had a fantastic season. He won GB vs France last weekend, he got a silver in the National Schools competition two weeks ago, although he’s two years below that age group. We’re very much looking forward to the U19 programme next year. I just need to push him on; he’s very keen to learn. A super athlete with very supportive parents. The whole club is very proud of him.”
