Durham Primary Regatta - 24.09.05
Durham ARC held their Primary Regatta which incorporated the 16th Veteran and Junior Regatta. Competitors sprinted over a distance of 500m.

World Rowing Masters Regatta - 8-11.09.2005
The 32nd FISA World Rowing Masters Regatta took place at Strathclyde Park, Scotland. Competitors, who were all veterans, raced over a distance of 1000m on an eight laned course competing against rowers from all over the world. Eighteen members took part and they had four wins. Performance of the weekend came from John Appleby who won three gold medals. Results were as follows :-

Dragon Boating World Championships
Durham ARC's Becks Lippe has been competing for Great Britain at the Dragon Boating World Championships in Berlin. Becks was part of the Great Britain team which came home with two bronze medals in the 500m and 200m and a silver medal in the 1000m.
European Masters Bench Press
Alex Lee who concentrates on weightlifting has been competing in the European Masters where he won a bronze medal in the bench press.
World Junior Championships, Germany - August 2005
Congratulations to Durham ARC's Helen Blevins who won a bronze medal competing for Great Britain in the Junior World Championships. Helen was competing in the Women's Junior 8 in which Germany won gold and Romania won silver.
World Rowing Under 23 Championships, Amsterdam - July 2005
Jessica Eddie, a former Durham ARC member, recently won a bronze medal in the coxless pair at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
Coupe de la Jeunesse - 30-31.07.05
Durham ARC's Emma Steel, aged 18, won two gold medals rowing for Great Britain in the Coupe de la Jeunesse over a 2000m course at Dorney Lake, Eton.
Emma stroked the Womens Junior Coxless Quad to two fantastic wins. GB were competing against teams from Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia and Switzerland.
GB were the overall winners and Emma, as Ladies Team Captain, was presented with the trophy.
National Rowing Championships of GB - 15-17.07.05
Thirteen members of Durham ARC competed at the National Rowing Championships of Great Britain over a 2000m six laned course at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. Competition took place over three days with the finals being held in extremely hot conditions.

Henley Veterans Regatta
On Saturday nine members of Durham ARC competed at Henley Veterans Regatta and returned with three gold medals. Hosted at Upper Thames the regatta has grown into an internationally recognised event for veterans. Competitors come from all over the world to compete and racing takes place over 1000m of the Royal Regatta course.
Carolyn Edwards won the Women's Veteran D single event. This follows on from her gold medal success at the National Veteran Championships.
Hazel Stainforth won the Women's Veteran E single event and John Appleby, Kim Metcalfe, Mickey Stevens and Paul Stanley coxed by Chris Tully won the Men's Veteran 4+.
GB Selection - World Junior Championships
Congratulations to Helen Blevins who has been selected to row for Great Britain in the Women's VIII at the Junior World Championships to be held in Brandenburg, Germany.
GB Selection - Coupe de la Jeunesse
Congratulations to Emma Steel, aged 18, who has been chosen to represent Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse which will be held at Eton on the Dorney Lake at the end of July. Emma will be stroking the Women's Junior Coxless Quad. This is a fantastic achievement by Emma and her coach Geoff Graham.
Talkin Tarn Regatta - 02.07.05

26th Allcomers Regatta - 25.06.05
In the Men's event the trophy went to David Heppell's bunch who beat the plucky crew from David Sturge, a firm in Newcastle, by 1.5 lengths. The High School staff crew won the Losers "round robin" event from the Electrical Employers Federation.
The Women's "round robin" produced a very close win for Christine Heppell's crew.
Nithsdale ARC Regatta - 25.06.05
Daniel Howie, aged 15, was the sole Durham ARC representative at Nithsdale Regatta on Saturday where he won the Men's Senior 3 2x rowing with Alistair Sarahs from Nithsdale. This was an excellent win as this was the first time they had rowed together.
York Summer Regatta - 19.06.05
On Sunday York Summer Regatta was held on the River Ouse at York over a 1000m course. Winners of the Men's Junior 16 4x were Ben Rowe, John Preston, Daniel Moore and Daniel Howie. They were also a very close second in the Men's Junior 18 4x event.
Durham Regatta - 11-12.06.05
On Saturday and Sunday the 171st Durham Regatta, sponsored by Camerons, was held over a 700m course on the River Wear at Durham. There were some long course races held over 1800m. There were 15 club wins and 4 composite wins as follows :-

National Veteran Championships - 12.06.05
On Sunday the National Veteran Championships were held at the National Watersports Centre at Nottingham. Competitors raced over a 1000m six laned course. Congratulations to Carolyn Edwards who won Gold in the Women's Veteran D 1x, Martin Tyler who won Silver in the Men's Veteran D 1x and Andy Jaggard who also won Silver in a Cambois composite Veteran 4+.
Hexham Regatta - 04.06.05
On Saturday members competed at Hexham Regatta over a 850m course on the River Tyne. Wins for Durham ARC were :-

Members were also competing at Peterbrough Regatta and Susie Easton and Tracy Nelson won the Senior 2 Pair and were second in the Elite Pair. Their win in the Senior 2 Pair was the fastest women's time of the day.
National Schools Regatta - 27-29.05.05
The National Schools Regatta took place at the National Watersports Centre at Nottingham over three days. Thirteen juniors from Durham ARC took part. Row of the weekend was by the Girl's Junior 14 Coxed Quad with Philippa Jones, Amy Scurfield, Becky Milburn, Megan Pickering and cox Vicky Elder. Racing over a 1000m six lane course they won a bronze medal out of an entry of 27 quads. There was a clean sweep for the North in this event as St Leonard's School won gold and Yarm School won silver.

On Saturday members competed at Tees Regatta. Racing was held on a 4 laned course over 850m on the River Tees. Performance of the day came from the coxed Women's Novice 4. They won their event and in doing so lost their novice status. The crew were Ruth Barker, Jane Scott, Amy Graveston, Katy Lee and cox Becks Lippe. Altogether there were 13 wins for Durham which were :-

Durham had five crews entered in the Tyne Regatta over a 1500m laned course on the River Tyne at Newburn and four crews won. Winners were :-

Congratulations to Martin Tyler who won the Men's Veteran D 1x event at the Tideway Scullers Head in April. Martin won in a time of 21:53:90 and was the fastest of nine veteran D scullers. His time was faster than the winner of the younger Veteran C 1x. His overall position was 31 out of 153 scullers.
Durham City Regatta - 7/8.05.05
Durham City Regatta was held over a 700m course on the River Wear on Saturday and Sunday 7 and 8 May 2005. In weather which included thunder and lightning, hail, rain, sun and wind there were 195 races on Saturday and 102 races on Sunday.
There were 14 wins, including 5 composite crews, on Saturday and 10 wins on Sunday.

On Saturday 23 April Durham ARC members travelled to Strathclyde for the Strathclyde Park Regatta. Competitors raced over an eight lane course. Winning crews were :-
Men's Junior 16 4x and Men's Open 4x - Daniel Howie, John Preston, Ben Rowe and Daniel Moore. Members of this coxless quad were all medal winners at the previous weekend's Junior Inter Regional Regatta at Nottingham.

Congratulations to Loren Wilmot and Rachel Milburn, aged 16 years, who only started sculling in January. They made their competitive debut in the Women's Novice 2x.

Junior Inter-Regional Regatta - 17.04.05
The Junior Inter-Regional Regatta was held over a 1500m course at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham on Sunday 17 April 2005. The Northern Region finished an excellent 5th out of 12 winning two gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Daniel Howie, aged 15, followed up his medal win at the National Championships of Great Britain last July by winning a bronze medal in the Men's Junior 15 1x. John Preston and Daniel Moore also won a bronze medal in the Men's Junior 16 2x.

Congratulations to Alex Lee a member of the Club who concentrates on powerlifting. Alex recently competed in the Masters British Bench Press Championships in Birmingham and lifted 162.5 kilos to set a new Masters 3 (age 60+) World Record in the 75 kilo class.
