Friends of Durham ARC

Durham ARC is a ‘Not for Profit Organisation’, which relies on members to both fundraise and run the club’s activities.

Every year the club runs a number of fundraising activities, the largest of which are our Regattas.  Durham City Regatta is a two day event and is one of the largest rowing events in the region.

Durham ARC members are also heavily involved in the running of Durham Regatta, the North’s largest rowing event, where we also carry out a significant amount of fundraising activities.

The Friends Group will be created to provide an active group of volunteers within the club and from outside, who will help us carry out both everyday functions as well as helping out at our events. Benefits of joining the Friends Group include free social membership of Durham ARC along with free hall hire and other benefits, as well as the opportunity to expand your own social network.Friends must be able to commit an average of 3 hours per week to the club.

Help Required:

General Maintenance – to help maintain the building, landing stages and grounds of Durham ARC.

Fundraising – to help fundraise through organising BBQ’s, coffee mornings and other social events.

Marshalling – to help at rowing events, controlling car parking and crews on the river. Tuition will be provided as necessary.

Spotting – junior rowers have to be supervised at all times whilst on the river. To help coaches we have ‘spotters’ on bicycles who ride along the towpath alongside crews, who warn the crews when they are straying onto the wrong side of the river or are likely to hit an obstacle such as a log or an oncoming crew. This is also a great way to get some light exercise and work with our junior coaches.

Coaching – Perhaps you used to row in the past and would like to get involved again or would simply like to help with coaching rowing, either way we would like to hear from you. Tuition and coaching courses are available.

Interested? Then why not contact us via enquires@durham-arc.org.uk or call the club on (0191) 3866431 (limited hours) or pay us a visit one Saturday or Sunday morning and ask to be directed to a member of the executive committee.
